We all enjoy spending time outside but tend to forget the impact that the sunrays, the wind or the dry weather can have on our skin. Many of us are not being as pro-active as we should be and often skip the protection part. Which approach do you find yourself taking: Prevent or Repair?

Of course, there are some skin conditions such as pigmentation changes that we cannot control, which may occur with age or as a result of birth control pills, pregnancy or genetic factors. Acne scaring may also have made the surface of your skin uneven.

What you may not know is that these problems, as well as certain other skin conditions, may be improved by skin resurfacing.

Is Skin Resurfacing For You?
What chemical peels can and cannot do…

Chemical peeling is used to improve the skin’s appearance by applying a chemical solution, which causes superficial damaged and dead layers of skin to detach and peel off. Thus revealing refined skin.

A popular Alpha Hydroxy Acid, such as glycolic acid has been proven to be a great exfoliant, which stimulates cellular activity, evens out skin tone, improves fine lines and the appearance of sun-damage as well as improve the elasticity and firmness of the skin. Glycolic acid also increases the synthesis of collagen and has a rejuvenating effect in the skin.

Chemical peels are simply one of the best ways to refresh your skin when it’s feeling dull and rough.

A wide variety of peels are available, utilizing various topical agents at various concentrations.

  • Superficial peels only penetrate the epidermis and can be used for a variety of conditions, including acne, melasma, dyschromias, photodamage, and actinic keratoses.
  • Medium-depth peels work on the papillary dermis and may be used for dyschromia, multiple solar keratoses, superficial scars and pigmentation disorders.
  • Deeper peels affect the reticular dermis and may be used for severe photo-aging, deep wrinkles or scars.

Before undergoing any kind of treatment, it is important that you are aware of results which cannot be achieved with a skin resurfacing treatment such as a chemical peel. Skin resurfacing procedures cannot produce perfect skin; rather, the goal is to remove dead skins cells, bringing new fresh undamaged skin cells to the surface – improving the appearance of the skin as much as possible. What is more, chemical peels cannot correct sagging skin or halt the aging process.

The type and colour or your skin as well as your age are factors that are usually discussed prior to undergoing most skin resurfacing procedures. Luckily, our OPTIPHI® Skin Rejuvenation Glycolic Peel is suitable for all skin types, which means that you could most definitely enjoy its wonderful benefits!

Before deciding on a skin resurfacing treatment, your OPTIPHI® therapist may recommend a skin care regimen to prepare your skin for the peeling treatment. If your skin shows substantial damage from aging, past or current skin conditions or injury, it may be necessary to undergo more than one chemical peel; you may also be advised to first use specific products to strengthen your skin barrier, in preparation for the peel.  Your OPTIPHI® therapist will discuss and inform you of the best routine for your specific skin concerns.

Chemical peels involve the use of chemical agents to create a controlled wound. The various biochemical processes involved in the wound healing processes will improve your skin complexion and banish dull skin.

In simple terms: new tissue is created, quickly revealing more radiant, youthful skin.

Chemical peels stimulate the proliferation and wound healing activity of fibroblasts, which increases the production of collagen and elastin.

AFTER YOUR OPTIPHI® SKIN REJUVENATION GLYCOLIC PEEL

The OPTIPHI® Skin Rejuvenation Glycolic Peel is very mild and gentle so you will not experience any ‘skin peeling’ afterwards and there is no downtime either, which means you could even fit a Peeling Treatment into your lunch break and return to work without anyone knowing!

The benefits from the peel are relatively long-lasting. That being said, light chemical peels such as our glycolic peel remain in the category of superficial resurfacing procedures and thus may need to be repeated periodically in order to maintain their benefits.
